HEART & CRAFT.
a loving guide for the worship community
Who is The Tone Shepherd?
My name is Devan Bumstead and I’m a follower of Jesus with a burning desire to foster resilient discipleship and an affinity for all things guitar. I’m married, have three children (and a dog) and work full time as an Associate Pastor in Newbury Park, CA. I’ve been leading praise for over 20 years and truly desire the P&W community to thrive in its heart and craft. The Tone Shepherd is my way of resourcing the Church to release the kind of praise Jesus deeply enjoys and stir the hearts of leaders to lead passionately and pastorally. I pray this site encourages you, sharpens you and inspires you!

BLOG
A collection of thoughts on the heart of worship and how to best serve Jesus with our craft.
Jesus is obsessed with having your heart.
The reason is simple...
He knows that you are at your best when you're obsessed with Him.
A few things (at least for me, personally) really get in the way of this. But a particular scripture jumped out at me in my personal time in the Bible this week. It encouraged me and I hope it does the same for you.
If you don't look closely, the Bible may seem to have conflicting information.
Should we boldly ask God for anything we want?
Or should we, like Paul, learn the secret of being content whether well fed or hungry?
What is the true point of prayer anyway?

A few years ago I discovered every time we read the Old Testament and come across the word, "praise", we are more than likely reading one of seven various words the Hebrew language uses to describe the demonstrative activity of giving honor, worth, and glory to God.
